Many unprivileged young girls are faced with challenges that come their way to receiving an education. Alongside their financial needs, they struggle with gaining access to clean drinking water, fresh food and crops, transportation, tuition, and school supplies. Many girls have to walk for hours just to provide their families with water; which interrupts their education. Not only that, but these young girls also help raise their younger siblings since their parents are working endlessly to support the family. With these barriers, many young girls end up giving up their dreams for the mere happiness of helping their families survive.
OneProsper has helped over 460 girls receive decent schooling despite their circumstances by building a rainwater harvesting tank with a 7-layer biosand filter to have access to clean drinking water, providing training in sustainable farming, supplying seeds to grow food and cash crops, giving bicycles to reach school in a less time, helping grow family incomes, and paying for uniform, tuition, and schools supplies. OneProsper has stepped up to make a difference in the lives of young girls who aspire to have a promising and stable future.
Alongside that, OneProsper created the English Buddy Learning Program where girls are paired up with a buddy from an English-speaking country, where they aim to improve the young girls’ English comprehension skills. Many girls need extra help to strengthen their English skills which are needed as part of their education and employment opportunities. When discussing with a student of their experience in participating in the ELB program, they exclaimed, “The ELB program has made me gain confidence in my English speaking and English comprehension skills. I have made a new friend with whom we talk about our interests and daily routines, even if we are both from different countries on opposite sides of the Earth. I am grateful for the opportunity that OneProsper has provided for me and my family toward a brighter future where I can achieve my dreams of becoming an engineer!”
The English Learning Buddy program has been running for over two years and the program has now collaborated with over six schools in India to improve the English comprehension skills of over 1,000 girls annually. With OneProsper and the services that they have provided for hundreds of families, countless young girls who once gave up their dreams of having a suitable lifestyle can now have hope of achieving success in an aspiring future.
