Deu

Until last year, nine year-old Deu would walk 10-12 km each day to collect water along with her sister and mother.

Today, she is attending school on a shiny new bicycle.  Her family has clean water thanks to a rainwater harvesting tank.  Deu’s mother is growing wheat and millet on her farmland using water from a newly built Khadin (farming dyke).   She is also growing fruits and vegetables for nutrition.

After school, Deu helps her mother to tend to their crops.   Pappu Devi has doubled her income by selling surplus wheat and millet.  After years of struggle, she is now confident of a brighter future.
