Lakshmi

During the past year, twelve year-old Lakshmi’s life has been transformed. Last year, Lakshmi would spend hours collecting water for her family.  She did not think school was an option for girls from impoverished families like her.   Her mother would seek work at nearby farms for income.

Today Lakshmi is attending school daily on her brand new bicycle.  Her family has clean water thanks to their brand new rainwater harvesting tank and biosand filter.  Her mother has doubled her income by growing grains on her field using the Khadin method.  A Khadin is a farming dyke across an agricultural field perpendicular to the flow of water.
