Sumitra

One year ago, nine year-old Sumitra would make 7-10 trips per day to collect water for her family.   As the sole provider of her family, Sumitra’s mother struggled to make ends meet by working at nearby farms.

Today, Sumitra is attending school.  A brand new rainwater harvesting tank provides her family with clean water. A newly constructed Khadin (farming dyke) has enabled her mother to grow wheat and millet for income generation.  She is also growing fruits and vegetables next to their water tank.

Sumitra is an excellent student and is determined to make the most of this gift.  She would like to become a teacher in order to uplift students in her village.
