Vimla & Sumitra

Vimla and Sumitra begins her day at 5:00 am and then walks several hours to collect water for her family. Afterwards she helps her mother to milk their cows and tend to their crops.

Vimla enjoys studying immensely — her favorite subject is Hindi — and only goes to school after completing her chores. Sumitra is worried that she too will not be able to attend school fully like her sister.

Now thanks to the support of Rohit Bhapkar and the Richa and Atul Aggarwal Foundation, their family will soon receive a water harvesting tank which will enable Vimla and Sumitra to attend school full-time. In addition, their family will have clean water, nutritious food and additional income.
